What is Effective Education?

Across the country, parents, teachers, and community members are talking about creating a more effective public education system. We agree that all children should graduate from high school prepared for success in college, career, or life. In order to reach that goal, we must create vibrant, excellent schools that set and achieve high expectations for all students.

Many factors go into creating this type of education system, including recruiting and retaining effective teachers and strong principals; investing transparently and responsibly in our schools; applying best practices across all schools, regardless of the instructional model; and engaging families in a child’s education. In Colorado, we’ve begun to address several of these areas through policy changes at the state and school district, none more significant than Senate Bill 191, the Great Teachers and Leaders Law, signed into law in May 2010. The passage of this law placed Colorado at the center of the conversation about creating a more effective education system.

It is our goal to continue that dialogue on this site. We all have a lot of questions about where our education system is heading, and the best solutions come from respectful, direct discussion about the issues. Our bloggers will share their experiences, ideas, and responses to the status quo, while also keeping you informed on the implementation of the Great Teachers and Leaders Law.
